Pre-Vet and VMT Clubs Attending Vet Conference

On the 21st of Feb. till the 24th, Wilson College students that are part of the Pre-Vet and Veterinary Medical Technology (VMT) clubs will be journeying to the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio for the Midwest Veterinary Conference. This conference is something that the VMT Club has been taking advantage of for years with the Pre-Vet Club joining them this year, and potentially for the foreseeable future. This conference is an opportunity for every member of the veterinary team to learn, network, and be exposed to social and learning opportunities that they otherwise would not normally experience.

Vice President Logan Souder ’21 highlights the specifics of the conference noting, “[It] showcases 30+ educational tracks, 120+ world-renowned speakers, 400+ hours of sessions and labs, and 175+ exhibitors.” Being an educational conference, a plethora of knowledge is available to the lucky students who will be attending. Primarily, a better understanding of their field is the main goal and discovering new techniques or methods will be an important aspect for these students to grasp. With the variety of options available to students. Souder hopes, “they are able to see aspects of veterinary medicine that they may not have known about before.”

VMT is a primary draw card for incoming students to Wilson College as one of the only VMT programs in the area. The program is also a good pathway for further education in terms of graduate education such as Vet school. All students going are either part of the VMT club or Pre-Vet club or both and are excited at the opportunity to further their understanding of veterinary science. Student Lindsey Palmer ’21 shares her excitement at the opportunity to go stating, “I think just learning the new information is rewarding. You have to keep yourself updated when working in the field because veterinary medicine changes. There is always new techniques to learn.”
