Hunt Seat Team Rides for the Win
Over the weekend of October 19, the Wilson College Hunt Seat Team held their first home Intercollegiate Horse Showing Association Hunter Seat show. The horse show was held at the Penn Hall Equestrian Center where several local colleges and universities came to compete. These schools included Gettysburg College, Lycoming College, Penn State, Bucknell University, Penn State Altoona, Dickinson College, and of course, Wilson College.
The show runs on a point-based system. Each division, split into many classes, has a point rider from each team. The points based on those riders’ placings determine the school’s overall team score. With the help of many volunteers and the dedicated Hunt Seat Team, Wilson was able to pull out the win, beating Penn State University by a few points. This means that the team was the High Point Team for the day, ranking our school number one at the start of the season.
Not only did the team place as High Point Team, but one of our very own open riders, Hannah Femia ‘22, came out at the end of the day as Reserve High Point Rider, meaning she scored some of the most points as an individual rider.
Femia shares, “Coming back for my second year on the team I was excited for more great rides. The whole team delivered for our first show and we ended up as High Point Team. Personally I was Reserve High Point Rider which I hope sets the tone for the rest of the season.”
The team is extremely proud of the hard work and dedication that each rider has put forward. They are excited for the rest of the season and the next semester as well. The team is ready to do what they need to do to be the best they can be this semester. They just had their second show this past weekend and have another show in New Jersey in a couple of weeks.
