Traditions Bloom at Annual Spring Fling

Wilson College will host its annual Spring Fling on May 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Main Green. All Wilson clubs, including Archery, Fencing, Music, Spanish, Alpha Delta Theta and many more will participate with fun projects for all ages. There will be inflatables, games, prizes, splatter paint and ice cream, and Sage Dining will serve picnic food outside on the green.

“We will have an addition/subtraction contest. The fastest time of the day will win a gift certificate to Domino’s! But there are prizes for anyone who plays,” said president of Alpha Delta Theta Sonja Hess ’15.

Katelyn Wingerd ’16, president of Spanish club is excited for the upcoming event.

“We are doing field games that are geared towards children and there will be prizes for them,” Wingerd said.

The event is a day-long activity and is organized by Campus Activities Board (CAB), whose members are also responsible for the semi-formal dinner and dance in the evening.

“We want everyone to have fun, because CAB is all about bringing the student body together for what the students want and really like,” said Director of CAB’s Traditions Committee Martha Hinish ’16.

Students voted this year for their favorite Spring Fling theme and the jungle theme emerged victorious. Thus, CAB members will decorate the dining hall and the student center, which is where the dance will take place.

“This will be my first Spring Fling and I am excited to see how CAB is going to decorate the dining hall,” Cheyenne Cooke’17.

Spring Fling includes a tradition called May Court, which is organized by the Wilson College Government Association (WCGA) and the class officers. Each class chooses four members to represent them during this ceremony and then the entire school elects the May Queen and jester from the senior class.

The event will be open to all students and the public and admittance is free. Students are required to make reservations to attend the semi-formal dinner and dance following the carnival.
