Who is Aunt Sarah?
Aunt Sarah has many faces, lives all over the country, and loves Wilson as much as you do! Alumnae/i from across the country have signed up to be a support system for students. The Aunt Sarah program connects alumnae/i with students through the gift of giving. Whether it is with a letter or a small package, the goal of the Aunt Sarah program is to encourage students to foster a relationship with a potential mentor during their time here.
The program is designed to connect a student with an Aunt Sarah who has something in common with the undergraduate. This can be a major, a career goal, or a common hobby. While some Aunts have chosen to remain a secretive supporter, some nieces and aunts have found direct contact builds the bond of friendship and a deeper level of mentorship occurs. Secret packages or letters go back and forth via the staff of the Alumnae/i Relations Office (AR). If a student is uncomfortable with the idea of secrecy, simply let your Aunt or the AR Office know your preference.
The program, revived last year, is gaining popularity this semester and students are excited to have this opportunity to interact with alumnae/i.
As the semester begins to wind down, we continue to encourage students to request an Aunt Sarah. It is never too late to seek encouragement and support from past students. Our alumnae/i are excited to interact and be part of your Wilson experience.
Has your Aunt Sarah done something amazing for you? Has she cheered you up during a stressful week? Have you and your Aunt Sarah formed a special bond? We would love to hear about it! As much as you love getting notes and gifts, your Aunt Sarah loves to hear how much it made your day. On Tuesday, November 26th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Lenfest Lobby, we encourage you to stop by and drop a quick note to your Aunt Sarah. Everyone loves getting mail, and with the holiday season around the corner, a note for Thanksgiving would be greatly appreciated. All the supplies will be provided. If your Aunt Sarah has opted to remain anonymous, we can address the note for you. As much as you love opening your post office box and seeing a letter, your Aunt Sarah would love it just as much.
The Alumnae Association of Wilson College (AAWC) , which offers the Aunt Sarah program, also invites you to stop by Lenfest Lobby on Dec 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or the Brooks Science Center lobby on Dec 4 from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to pick up a small gift from the Association. Also join the AAWC on Dec 10 for Food For Finals. Keep an ear out for more news during WCGA meetings. We hope to see you at some of our events and look forward to more students and alumnae/i connections.
If you have any questions about the Aunt Sarah program, would like to sign-up, or if you haven’t heard from your Aunt Sarah, please email student.AR@wilson.edu.
