Hypnotist Mesmerizes with Tomfoolery

Wilson College topped off its 2013-14 Performing Arts Series by hosting Mikey Angel, a Comedy Hypnotist, on Friday April 11, in Laird Hall. Admission for Wilson students was free and community members paid a small fee to attend the event.

Joel Pagliaro, Director of Conferences and Special Events, arranged the event. According to Pagliaro, “We were looking for something that is geared towards high school and college age…it is all about what the students like and what they really enjoy.”

Mikey uses his thorough knowledge of hypnosis, psychology, magic, and theater to entertain and interact with the audience. He has presented shows to different age groups including high schools, colleges, fairs, and festivals for many years. Mikey’s shows are hilarious and fun. Moreover, he uses the audience as props and asks as many volunteers as possible to join him on the stage.  Eleven students actively volunteered to be the stars of the show on Friday evening and to entertain the rest of the audience.

Rachel Knaub ‘15 attended the show.  “It was a lot of fun seeing fellow Wilson students participate,” said Knaub. “It was great to see so many people from the Chambersburg community come out as well.”

Marybeth Lowe ’15 also enjoyed the show and said, “I liked how Mikey Angel got as much of the audience involved as possible.  Everyone had a lot of fun, whether they were on stage or not. It was really interesting and a great experience, especially if you needed a good laugh.”

In addition to Mikey Angel, the college also hosted several other performers: the band Many Nights Ahead, pianist Efi Hackmey, William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and Billie Holiday Vocal Competition winner Kerensa Gray were all as part of this year’s Performing Art Series.

Pagliaro adds, “We are always open for suggestions from students, faculty, staff, and community members. We take all requests into consideration as long as they are reasonable and affordable.”
