Field Hockey ends season 7-9

by Samantha Burmeister

The Phoenix field hockey team concluded their 2013 season with a 7-9 overall record.  The 2013 roster included a significant number of upperclassmen who provided much needed senior leadership.  The team recognizes and applauds seniors Megan Schneck, Victoria Whitbred, Brittany Smith, and Katie Omori for their accomplishments and direction.

Overall, the Phoenix field hockey team was very competitive in all of their matches as they faced a tough schedule this season in contention with many highly competitive programs.  The team recorded wins over Wells College, Frostburg State University, Notre Dame of Maryland University, Hood College, Washington and Lee University, Cedar Crest College, and Bethany College.

Junior Hillary Swartz led the team in scoring with nine goals, three assists, and 21 points.  Senior Megan Schneck contributed with seven goals and 16 points for the season.  Sophomore Gina Weigold played every game in net as the Phoenix goalkeeper and totaled over 1120 minutes and 95 saves.

The team launches their nontraditional season this spring as they prepare for the 2014 season.  The Phoenix will host an alumnae scrimmage on April 27th at 2:00pm at Wilson.
